Attracting the spiders to your newly launched website can be a comparatively difficult task, but not impossible, especially with the help of the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies I’m about to give you.

Framework

The basic framework (or how your website is built) has to be “spider friendly.” Here’s how it works…Every couple of months, search engine spiders crawl the entire world wide web. Do they crawl every word on every website? Well, not exactly. If they run into a website that is not created with search engine spiders in mind, an entire section of a website may be skipped.

So, what am I saying here? You just spent the past two weeks writing keyword rich content for your site in hopes of working your way up the Google ranking ladder, and it may be all for nothing? …possibly.

Some websites and blog themes (especially the free ones) are built on shaky frameworks that actually block search engines from crawling anything but the homepage. I recently explained it to one of my clients this way: “It’s like building rooms on your house without doors…Really pretty, but no one knows they are there because there is no way in.”

This is why Writers-Elite only builds with the SEO charged combination of WordPress and the Thesis theme. With the combination of these two as a framework, you can’t go wrong. They are made with search engines in mind. In fact, I’ve had sites that I’ve built on WordPress actually indexed with the search engines within 24 hours. Now, that’s what you want if you are trying to get noticed online!

Quality SEO Web Content

Once the basic infrastructure is covered, its time to focus on your SEO web content. Unique, informative, keyword optimized web content is the fastest way to reach your target audience and land yourself on page one of Google.

The right keywords and keyword phrases help the search engine spiders to understand your content and rank your website accordingly. Writers-Elite will help you to choose the keyword phrases that you can use throughout your entire site for optimum search engine ranking.

Content should be added on a regular basis. We at Writers-Elite offer a Blog Management Package for busy individuals who just don’t have the time to add new content on a regular basis. With our Blog Management Package, we provide 5-10 keyword rich posts that are loaded into your blog panel and pre-set to “go live” on the web at future dates. We recommend two posts per week, so we will load all ten into your panel, set the first two for Tuesday and Friday of THIS week, the next two to go live Tuesday and Friday of NEXT week, and so on…until all of your SEO web content is preset to deploy. Doesn’t that sound nice? You’ll keep climbing in Google rankings on a regular basis, but won’t have to worry about your site again for the next 5 weeks.

You can do it this way, or you can just have us write two posts per week for you indefinitely. Then you REALLY won’t have to think about your site or worry about your business blog. Contact Writers-Elite today to discuss the plan that is right for you.

Internal Linking

Developing your website with an internal link structure is a vital part of your Google ranking strategy. Once your necessary pages have been created, such as About Us, Services, Contact, Experience etc. you should link them with each other. This is especially easy to do in a blog post. I’ve already linked over to my Home Page earlier in this post. When creating content, I will keep in mind what my previous post topics were, and will link over to “more information” in related posts as they relate to the topic at hand.

How Does Internal Linking Help?

If you take the time to make sure that each page links with at least one another page, this will help the search engine spiders to crawl through from one page to the others, thus indexing all the pages of your website. I also use a plugin that provides links to related posts and articles when I build a new blog. This plugin ensures that I have internal links (even if I forget to do it manually).

These are the main ways to move your business blog or website from the internet “abyss” over to “high traffic central.”

A business blog or website is built to increase your business and ultimately your bottom line.

In order to do so, you need to “get noticed” on the web. Writers-Elite does the work for you so you can focus on what you do best…Run your business!

There’s quite a bit of frustration out there in the world of Internet Marketing. Much of it revolves around the myth that all search engine optimized (SEO) web content is regurgitated, useless sludge that no one actually wants to read.

As a web copywriter and SEO web content provider, I can relate to the frustrations of business owners and entrepreneurs who are desperately trying to build their online reputation, only to be met with a series of disappointments when it comes to their blogs and web content. After quietly observing some of the decisions many of them make, I can honestly say that I have the answer, but whether they will listen remains to be seen.

Let’s take a quick look at the root of the problem…SEO web content misconceptions. We will also happily dispel a few evil myths along the way.

Misconception #1: Those who do not recognize the true need for SEO web content. “Just write compelling and valuable content. The keywords will naturally flow into it. Write what people want to read and they will find it.” Really? That’s about as silly as thinking that if you open a restaurant on a desert island and serve the best food in the world, somehow, someone will know you are there. Come on, we’re more intelligent than this, aren’t we? No one is going to magically “find” your rocking website filled with killer content, unless it is properly search engine optimized.

Misconception #2: Those who recognize the need for keyword dense content, but choose to fill their website with cheaply spun or plagiarized articles. This person is so blind to the needs of their readers that they’ve gone off the deep end in the complete opposite direction. They believe that as long as they can rise up Google rankings with keywords, it doesn’t matter what kind of crappy content is on their site. Wrong….You may get a lot of initial traffic, but take a look at your bounce rate. No one is going to stay on your site long enough to read 2 paragraphs, let alone purchase your products or services.T

How to Rank Well With Google: Understanding the Search Engine Brain

These misconceptions stem from a basic foundational misunderstanding of the way search engines operate. More specifically, it’s a misconception of the way a search engine crawls a website to gather information. A search engine is not simply a massive find function, like the one in the “Edit” menu of a Word document. Google doesn’t simply pull up any random page that has your chosen keyword in it X number of times. If it did, all pages that show up on search engine results would simply contain a list of the keywords.

Ultimately, writing for the search engines entails writing for web surfers. Think about it: services like Google thrive on giving web surfers the pages they are looking for. If they consistently failed to give people what they wanted, people would stop using them.

Bottom line, in order to rank well with Google you are going to have to realize that your content has to be specifically written for the web. Web content must be informative, a quick and compelling read, preferably with bullet points covering relevant facts that answer specific questions. Most people searching through SEO web content are looking to answer a “how to” or “how does” question. They are looking for a product or a solution to a problem. They have questions…they need quick answers. If your web content isn’t crafted to answer a question or fill a need, you’ll end up on page 33 of Google rankings, regardless of how eloquently written your web content is.

No one is looking for a novel or someone’s opinionated ramblings online. In fact, as far as publications go, newspapers are the only paper publications that have made a smooth online transition, precisely because they are written in short, to-the-point paragraphs that are easy to scan.

Still Think Good SEO Web Content Makes for Bad Reading?

If you are reading these words, congratulations. You’ve just read through an article that is filled with search engine optimized web content. This blog post was optimized using the keyword phrases, SEO web content, search engine, search engines, search engine optimized, and rank well with Google.

The keyword phrases are present in sub-headings and throughout the content. The content itself is easy to scan and is broken up by sub-headings every four paragraphs or so.

Because this post is search engine optimized, if someone types in a phrase like, “SEO web content,” this page has a pretty good chance of showing up.

In short, there’s much more to writing well for the web than just writing well. There’s also much more involved in being able to rank well with Google than stuffing your fluffy, useless post with keywords. If you have enough sense to get your web content written professionally, have enough sense to take some solid advice from me. Use a professional SEO web content writer, such as myself, that will supply highly usable, informative, articles that are also keyword rich and Google friendly.

Contact me at 239-440-6856 or by email at: editor@writers-elite.com to start rocking your website or blog with SEO web content that will get you the results you are truly looking for (the kind that nicely pads your pocketbook).

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the act of creating your blog / website and all posts in a way that will be most conducive to the way Google spiders crawl and rank your site. Google looks for the relevant, repeated theme. SEO helps Google to make the right decision by:

A) Creating Unique, Valuable and Original Posts that contain specific targeted Keywords (No Duplicate Content Please), and

B) Using the Keywords in your Title, Meta Description, and SEO Plugins (Such as All in One SEO Pack) to further assist Google in it’s Site Assessment

Other ways to rank well with Google and the Search Engines is by gaining backlinks. Backlinks are other well ranking sites that mention your site and provide a link to you on one of their web pages. Either the site’s writer specifically links to you through an article, review or mention of your site, or you can comment on certain sites that allow links to appear along with your comment.

Those are just two of the many SEO tactics. If you are into writing articles, you can write on sites such as Ezines.com or Suite 101 and link back to your website. Guest blogging on a popular site in exchange for a backlink is another way to earn some Search Engine juice.

Now that you have a bit of an idea what goes into SEO (and that’s just scratching the surface), obviously you can appreciate the importance of a well planned, well written, and well constructed blog or website.

That’s the geeky end of the spectrum.

How does Social Media Networking fit into this picture?

If you are active on Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed, and LinkedIn….”Active” being the defining word here, you can go viral for certain information, offers, contests, and articles in a very short amount of time. How short? How about an hour or two. Now I’m not talking about the casual Tweeter with a following of 500 or less, nor am I talking about the occasional Facebook poster. If you have a following that actively engages in conversations with you, then you pretty much know who you are.

If you were wondering, try heading over to a site called Topsy.com. Sign up for a free account. It will sync with your Twitter and show you the statistics of your Tweets. You’ll see numbers such as “How many times other influential Tweeters Re-tweet you” and it even rates how influential you are, right next to your name. You’ll get a good idea of your authority level.

With that in mind, if you are active on the Social Media Networking scene, you’ll happily enjoy the best of both worlds. You’ll have a site that is easily found and ranked by Google, and you can go ahead and set up your networking sites, such as Facebook and LinkedIn to automatically grab your blog posts and display them. You can also Tweet your latest or most popular posts. Just don’t overdo it with the Tweets or it becomes irritating spam and you’ll lose followers.

As a side note, the active Social Networker is NOT someone who wastes all of their time every day on FaceBook or Tweeting away their morning. Use Social Media wisely, just as you would use your email. It’s a tool. You don’t check your email every five seconds, so treat Social Networking accordingly. Once check in the morning with a few comments to individuals and one in the late afternoon should be plenty. It’s the individual who squats on FaceBook for hours at a time that complain about what a time suck it is. It doesn’t have to be.

So, who is the winner? Which is more important? My vote is for enjoying the best of both worlds. There have been times that I’ve Tweeted one of my blog posts and it led to quite a surge of traffic. I wouldn’t want to have to give this effective marketing tool up. But for those of you who really want to know which is more important…My vote is for SEO, hands down.

Why is SEO More Important than Networking?

Search Engine Optimization works for you 24 hours a day. It’s a “set it and forget it” tactic. If you take the time to implement proper Search Engine Optimization into your site and your posts, Google will do the work for you. Ranking on Page 1, 2, or 3 for targeted keyword phrases will bring potential clients to your door while you sleep. I wake up to quote requests for my writing at least three or four times per week. For me it’s a combination of my SEO and Social Networking, but I’ve noticed that I also am approached for my services even when I have neglected my Social Networking. So that’s my take on it. SEO should be the foundation for a properly built site.

Google is getting better at weeding out the spam sites and ranking the valuable, original, well constructed sites. Get in on the SEO train now, and your site will be ready for a profitable 2010.

If you submit articles to Associated Content or EzineArticles to drive traffic to your blog or website, here are a few little cheating tips that will optimize your efforts in a BIG WAY.

Well, okay the methods don’t actually involve cheating, but they do use Associated Content and EzineArticle in such a way that will cause you to receive the most page views possible for your article submissions. Now that’s good news!

Here’s the deal. What if I told you, if you were to change just three small things, your article submissions would become supercharged? That would be cool.

And keep in mind that you’re not going to break any rules, not even one, by using these three methods. Ready to follow along and optimize your article submissions? Good.

1. The first optimization trick that will drive traffic to your blog is so simple that you’ll wonder why you didn’t see it. Whenever you publish a piece on Associated Content, you’re required to place something in the “descriptive overview” box, right after the subtitle. Don’t strain your brain trying to write your description–The best thing to put in that spot is the first 150 to 200 characters of your article. Easy as pie.

It doesn’t ‘look’ redundant to anyone, because that field appears on your Content Producer Page. But spiders “recognize” it!

Those wonderful programs (lovingly called spiders), who are sent over with every inquiry on every search engine only see the patterns and/or instructions of what they’re programmed to.

Bottom line when you are writing, make your article reader friendly AND spider-friendly. All of your work is pretty pointless if you don’t.

2. The second happy little trick to optimize your article submissions should be used when writing or your own blog or website as well as Associated Content or EzineArticle. This one involves a couple of tools. Since we now know that we need to please the spiders as well as the visitors, counting keywords in our articles is absolutely vital. Counting cards may get you kicked out of Vegas, but counting keywords will drive traffic and sales right to your door with your article submissions. A lot of us try to determine keyword density by counting the words ourselves, just by skimming over the article. If that’s you, stop now… There are free tools to do that for you silly!

The absolute BEST tool to use for this is Textalyser. It’s free and fast. I’ve used other programs, but the feature that sets Textalyser apart is that it not only counts your individual keywords, it also determines your keyword phrases, which is much more important. It also calculates the keyword density percentage. Just copy and paste the body of your text into the program and let the analysis begin…

A rule of thumb is to keep your unique keyword phrases at about 6% keyword density.

The easiest way to do this is to place your best keyword phrase in the title, the subtitle (if applicable), and twice in both the opening, and closing paragraphs, as well as every 100-200 words, within the body. (Don’t forget to name your image with one of your keyword phrases…yes, spiders crawl your photos too)

Also, in order to find the best (most searched) keyword phrases, use Google’s free keyword tool and refer to my Ninja tutorial on exactly how to use it. Okay, your article submissions are almost supercharged…

3. Here’s the final, vital, non-negotiable step to your article optimization campaign. This is the part that really makes the other two steps take off. This is also the part that most people question, or just plain ‘don’t get.’

Ready? Here it is: Promote other people’s work. In fact, promote the websites of others at least three times as often as you do your own.

That means for every link of your own that you post, you should put at least three links to the valid and reliable works of others (including entire subject categories) out there too. Why? To be nice? No, it’s so much more than that.

If you’re linking to only your own work in blogs, social networking sites, and other places, Google’s spiders will see you as probable spam. (Yep, you got that right) You’re quite literally pulling the rug out from under yourself if you don’t link to other sites and promote other writer’s work.

By posting just your own stuff you’re actually hurting your Google Ranking by being to pushy. Yes, the Google Police can quantify “pushy.” Amazing. Huh? When you build your own little kingdom of niche blogs, linking to ONLY each other, your little world will remain unnoticed.

So use your blogs and your article submissions to lead to others sites as well as your own. It will help your rankings, you will see.

Does all of this sound like work? Of course it is. But keeping your eye on the bigger picture, if you are going to write the articles, you should take the time to do them correctly. Only by optimizing your article submissions will you be able to generate enough traffic to lead people to your sales page or back to your own website.

Lastly, keep in mind that none of these methods will work as well alone as they will together. You should do all three to really see the benefits.

There you have it, your three little cheating tips (that don’t really involve any cheating) to optimize your article submissions like a madman, or a Ninja, or whatever cool thing you wish you were…

So, what exactly is keyword optimization? Using one sentence for an answer– Keyword optimization can be defined as using the right words in the right places.

How Do I Achieve Page One Rankings?

If you’re involved in SEO, you’ve undoubtedly heard this question a lot. Unfortunately, an exact, step-by-step formula doesn’t exist, but there are certain ‘best practices’ you can implement to give you a clear advantage over your competition.

Your first step to page one rankings involve the keywords and keyword phrases used in your web content.

Keyword Optimization Best Practices – Remember, like I said–nothing is set in stone, but here are the basics that generally stay the same:

Title: Clever titles are so tempting, especially for an intelligent, creative freelance writer. Trust me on this one and use the main keyword phrase that you are trying to rank for in your title. Best case scenario: Use the exact keyword phrase as the first words of the title without any filler words in between.

Meta Description: The Meta Description is the little blurb that appears right after the title. It should be kept to 160 characters or less and although the description doesn’t directly affect rankings, a good description will increase click-through rates. Increased traffic is what you are ultimately after, so it’s a vital part of optimization.

Keyword Location: For best results, the targeted keyword phrase should ideally be used within the first fifty words of the content. The engines do seem to show preference for pages that use keywords early on in the text.

Keyword Density: This is an important one. Web content needs to strike the proper balance between valuable content and including important keywords. Targeted keyword phrases should not sound unnatural and they shouldn’t be used more than 9%. Once in the title, once in the first 50 words and two to three times in the body of a 500-600 word article is just fine. If you are relatively new to keyword optimization, there are plenty of tips and tactics that are clearly against Google’s rules and can actually hurt your site. Tactics such as ‘keyword stuffing’ and invisible text to ad keywords are deceitful and should not be considered.

H1 Headline: Although there are varying viewpoints regarding the importance of H1 Headlines, it is still considered to be best practice. Include the keyword phrase in the headline.

Image Filename: Traffic from images has become quite important in search strategies. Be sure to optimize by naming your images by using proper targeted keywords.

Alt Attribute for Images: This little gem carries much more search engine juice than you would think. Many studies have proven it to play a big part in rankings. Along with the image filename, use the alt attribute for images with the targeted keywords as the tag.

Bolding or Italicizing Keyword Phrases: On a scale of one to ten for importance, this one isn’t that high–maybe a two. It certainly stands to reason that every little bit helps. It is recommended to use the keyword phrase in bold at least once in the content.

The Perfect Balance

Although it is so easy to implement these simple practices, we don’t always do it. Like I mentioned earlier in the post, sometimes our creativity does something to us that fogs our brain and causes us to completely ignore these simple tactics for keywords.

In addition to these strategies, always remember that your content must be intelligent, valuable and compelling. Useful information will attract a following that will keep your visitors coming back for more. Remember, striking that balance is the key to ideal page optimization.

Keywords are the SEO juice that fuels your website. In simplest terms, a keyword phrase is that MAGICAL combination of words that an individual types into the little Google search space right before they hit ‘enter.’ These magical words are a vital element in your Google indexing strategy. Why? Well, it’s like this… If you sell the highest powered, best tasting energy drink on the planet but the keywords that you use on your website never match anything that the average person types into a search (such as ‘best energy drink’ or ‘fast working energy drink’) no one will ever find your site. Essentially, all the efforts put in to tweak your site for top rankings on Search Engines will bring zero results if the targeted keyword phrases are not right.

The key here is to use the most relevant keywords and keyword phrases naturally throughout the different parts of your website, instead of using all the keywords in one article at one time. Higher relevance is given to certain areas of the HTML documents by various search engines, so you’ve got to spread that keyword mojo all throughout your site.

Choosing the best keywords and keyword phrases is step one for your SEO campaign. It is the most critical step and you’ve got to get it right.

Here are specific instructions that clearly lay out the Best Practices for correctly using your keywords:

In the <title> tag – Search results always show the title tag as your page title. Best Practice: Keep the title short (5-10 words). The keyword should appear in the tag/title. Near the beginning of the title is best practice.

In anchor text – Best Practice: Use anchor text with keyword focus from external links. Inbound links are like double-shock power…great for the site and for revving up the keyword credibility as well.

In headings – Keys: The keywords in the heading (in H1) are important, but only if the page contains actual content relevant to the keyword. Keep the heading precise (5-10 words)

Using the keyword as the first word of the heading…Priceless

In the URL – Careful, careful…This helps to rank but keyword should be found throughout the article or post or you may be penalized.

Proper density – Best Practice: Keep keyword density under 10%. Use 7-8% for targeted keywords and keyword phrases. Not more than 3. Stick to 1-2% for secondary keywords on the page.

Grand entrance – Best Practice: The keyword should appear within the first 50 words of the content.

In images – Label images with <alt>/<title> tag filled with some keywords. Spiders read these tags.

In H2 – H6 headlines….More good ideas

In Meta Tags? – Well, okay. Yahoo and Bing use this. Google doesn’t. It won’t hurt anything so go ahead.

Proximity – What’s that? It’s the closeness between keywords. Keyword phrases without words in between is best practice, but sometime can’t be placed naturally. Close proximity keywords will still rank.

Synonyms: Search engines have algorithms that take synonyms into consideration, so they do rank.

Worst Practices Dumb Ideas:

Using Keyword misspellings in the content – Bad idea. Remember, you are ‘ranking’ with the search engines, but still have intelligent first time visitors to impress. If you know your target keywords have popular misspellings put them in the Meta Tags.

Dilution – Excessive unrelated keyword optimization will negate all keywords. Lose-Lose situation.

Stuffing – Using a density of more than 10% is considered stuffing and can get you banned by Search Engines.

That’s the bottom line of proper and improper use of keywords for search engine optimization. Following these practices will bring qualified traffic to your site, and that’s what you are looking for!
